The Religious Right (1) with Neil Young
Session 1 of the 2-part live interactive webinar with Neil J. Young.
After ascending to prominence in the Republican Party in the 1980s, the political coalition of evangelical Christians declined dramatically in size and power by the turn of the millennium.
But now, the Supreme Court’s imminent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is just one indication of the return to power of religious conservatives in American politics. The campaigns against alleged networks of pedophiles and “groomers,” the protest against Disney’s programming, the growing popularity of Orthodox Christianity, and the recent victories of anti-abortion forces in state legislatures and the courts all suggest that the religious right is back.
In this 2-part live interactive webinar hosted by Thaddeus Russell, we will examine both the origins of the religious right as a political force and its current manifestations.
In the first session, on Monday May 16, we will be joined by the historian Neil J. Young, co-host of the Past Present podcast and author of We Gather Together: The Religious Right and the Problem of Interfaith Politics.
On Tuesday May 17, Gio Pennacchietti of the Break the Rules and Content Minded podcasts will examine the new, younger, digital-age incarnation of the religious right.
Both sessions will feature Q&A with attendees.
